Sniper Elite finally figured that the CoD "run and gun" style is. I personally found that to be a big upgrade. You can actually avoid most conflict by sneaking through or around enemies. In Sniper Elite 3, you don't have to do that. Set up important sniping shot against important political/military personnel. But in V2, you just went through the motions. Hey! I know you just rolled your eyes after reading that sentence! Hear me out! I am not saying that the story of Sniper Elite 3 is CoD4 caliber or anything like that. One of the few improvements in Sniper Elite 3 is a more enjoyable story. So let's start with the story and work our way towards hell, shall we?įor those who played V2, the story and uninspiring. I took my blood pressure medication but it takes a bit for it to kick in. It's not over the top in terms of amazing, but there isn't anything to nag about either.Īlright! I'm starting to get a little fire in the furnace. I don't have much else to say about the sound. The explosions from your strategically placed land mine can cause a streak in your britches if you forgot you laid it before you entered your sniping nest. The gibberish the enemies are always saying sounds just like gibberish. The landscape was quite mesmerizing, as it is in the game Operation Flashpoint: Red River.Īs for the sound(s) in the game, everything is up to par. While I was doing one of my "longshots" in the campaign, I admired the backdrop for a good minute. Graphics are improved compared to V2 and the finer details really show through. Granted, this is the year 2014 and we should be at the point where we don't worry about if graphics will be decent or not. It is not Final Fantasy, explosion in the pants kind of graphics, but still very solid for a shooter.
Say what you will, but this game is actually quite beautiful. While V2 is far from "perfect" in gaming standards, it is even further away from "broken".Īlright.
V2 should be a basic template on how to make and distribute games. The bulletcam, the simplicity of the mechanics, the bulletcam, even the vanilla storyline (and don't forget the bulletcam). It took many passing moons to finally see a sequel (Sniper Elite V2) and for some reason, Sniper Elite 3 was squirted out of the developer womb most likely in a cash grab since they could launch it onto two consoles for both Sony & Microsoft. I played Sniper Elite on PS2 with my brother and while that game is considered a relic in gaming lore, we couldn't get enough of how "different" it was compared to other shooters. I would lay awake at night, fantasizing about every bullet I forced into some krauts mouth, shattering his teeth and hearing that lovely "tink" sound as the bullet exited his skull. Ahh, Sniper Elite.how I used to love you.
